This page is for businesses. We provide commercial waste removal and waste disposal in Hackney for offices, shops, cafés, bars, studios and workshops. Our own crew loads the waste into our van and takes it away. Every job comes with a waste transfer note and an invoice. If you are clearing a home, use our sister site instead, as explained at the end of this page.
Hackney has very different business streets. The council describes Dalston as Hackney's largest town centre. Hackney Wick has a long history of industry, manufacture and trade. In Hoxton, Hoxton Street has a number of small retailers and cafés.
Waste disposal for businesses in Hackney
We do one-off clearances and scheduled repeat collections. Our work in Hackney usually falls into these groups:
- offices and studios in Shoreditch and Hoxton, and the bars nearby, with desks, partitions and old IT cleared (office clearance);
- shops and cafés in Stoke Newington and Clapton, and the shops and market traders on Dalston and Kingsland high streets (shop clearance);
- workshops and studios in Hackney Wick, cleared at the end of a lease (factory and warehouse clearance);
- builders' waste from fit-outs and refurbishments (builders' waste).
We do not take hazardous, clinical or chemical waste, asbestos, certified confidential shredding, food waste, cooking oil or liquids.
Hackney Council commercial waste, and how our service differs
Hackney Council offers commercial rubbish, recycling and food waste collections. It says it can change the number of collections at busier and quieter times of year.
The council is clear that you do not get free waste collections for your business. To show that they pay, businesses must put their rubbish or recycling in the bins or bags the council provides, or use the tape it provides. The council also offers discounted collections to some charity, hospital, school and nursery operators.
The council service suits some businesses. A van clearance or pickup from us often suits better where you:
- do not want a bin contract, or have no room for bins;
- have bulky items such as furniture, partitions or old fittings to remove in one go;
- need a one-off clear-out, a move or a refit;
- want repeat collections on days you pick, with nothing left on site.
For any job, we give one fixed price in writing after you send photos.
Local rules for putting business waste out
Put-out times. The council says bins usually go out before 6am, but sometimes it is later in the day.
Time slots on busy streets. The council collects rubbish and recycling twice a day on streets that are busy or do not have enough space for bins. On these streets, the council says "You must put your bags out during these time slots." The slots differ by street, so check the council's time-band page for yours.
Presenting waste. The council's enforcement page says businesses must "put out your waste for collection following rules for the road which your business is on", and must "prevent the escape of your business waste".
Separating waste. The council says businesses with 10 or more employees must separate rubbish, recycling and food waste. Businesses with fewer than 10 employees must separate them from March 2027.
Fines. On the council's enforcement page, failing to provide waste transfer notes covering 2 years "may be prosecuted or issued with a £300 penalty notice". On fly-tipping, the council says "You can be fined up to £50,000 and receive a prison sentence." It is also an offence to let someone else fly-tip or illegally dump waste for you.
Duty of care. The council says business waste must be transferred to a registered waste carrier who provides a waste transfer note or receipt as evidence of disposal. Government guidance asks businesses to complete a waste transfer note for each load leaving your premises, check that the carrier is registered, and keep a copy for 2 years. We hold an upper tier waste carrier and dealer licence, CBDU502847, valid to 16 September 2029.
Access, timing and red routes
We work Monday to Saturday, 7am to 7pm. Evenings, early starts and Sundays can be arranged.
Red routes. Main roads such as Kingsland Road and Shoreditch High Street are red routes. Transport for London manages red routes. The council says that single and double red lines ban all stopping, parking and loading. We plan where the van can stop before the job.
ULEZ. The whole borough is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone. Transport for London says the zone operates across all London boroughs.
Buildings and building managers. In shared buildings, the building manager often sets the rules for lifts and loading. Send us the contractor rules, lift booking process and loading times early, and we will work to them.
Hackney districts we cover
We cover Hackney Central, Hackney Wick, Dalston, Stoke Newington, Clapton, Lower Clapton, Upper Clapton, Homerton, London Fields, Haggerston, Hoxton, Shoreditch, De Beauvoir Town, Stamford Hill, Shacklewell, South Hackney, Victoria Park, Kingsland, Dalston Junction and Broadway Market.
